Plastic Flow in Glass
This simple analysis ignores the fact that glass becomes ìself-healingî under compressive stress.
Plastic flow means that microcracks in the glass become filled in.
The sphere actually gets stronger with depth.
Some means of initiating failure is needed
- Hit the sphere with some device
- Make the sphere non-uniform (grind a flat spot)
