Circe Summons

Poetry © 1996 by Lynnette E. Fitch

Listen, sailor, for my siren song;
Let me lure you like Lorelei.
Mesmerized by mermaid murmurs,
Drown not, neither you nor I.

Wreck not on my wretched reef,
But crash like surf upon my shore.
An' come you hither to my island,
I'll throw wide my chamber door.

I invite you 'cross my threshold.
Dare you enter Calypso's den?
Let me sun upon your shipwreck.
Return not to the world of men.

Rescue Circe from seclusion.
Love me longer than a day.
Cure this Kate of cursed confusion.
Do men love once looks decay?

Pray you, love, for mercy's sake,
Leave no Dido in your wake.
